Top Senate Democrat Joins Chorus of Lawmakers Breaking from Biden on Israel

Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland expressed his belief that military assistance to Israel should persist, differing from the stance of the White House.

Cardin stated his disagreement with President Biden, who has warned of withholding offensive aid to Israel if it carries out a ground invasion of the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where numerous Palestinians have taken shelter during the conflict.

"While the most recent report regarding Israel under the NSM-20 has raised concerns, I agree with its assessment that Israel has not violated International Humanitarian Law and that military assistance to support Israel’s security remains in the U.S. interest and should continue," Cardin said.
