South Dakota's recent policy prohibiting the use of gender pronouns in official communications at public universities is also restricting Native American employees from indicating their tribal affiliations.

In recent years, its become increasingly popular for "woke" young people in school to adopt "preferred pronouns" that align with their chosen gender identity. Governor Noem has supported the removal references to preferred pronouns as well as the banning of drag shows.
