Houston police chief retires suddenly after 260,000 suspended investigations

The Chief of Police in Houston retired suddenly on Tuesday night amidst concerns about a department policy that resulted in the suspension of numerous cases, including those related to sexual abuse.

Troy Finner, who had been leading the Houston Police Department since 2021, concluded his 34-year tenure with the department.
 

Tough to accept

“I consider Troy Finner a friend. It was tough to accept his retirement, but it was in the best interest of Houstonians,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said in a news conference.
